As the name suggests part of this knot is already formed before entering the laparoscopic simulator. Stage 1 (outwith the simulator) Hold the head with one needle holder and ask an assistant to hold this end Hold the tail in your left hand and another needle holder in your right hand Place the needle holder in your right hand on the thread Wrap the thread around the needle holder twice using your left hand Grab the thread higher up near the assistant with the needle holder in your right hand Feed the loops over the needle holder using your left hand Pull the tail tight and you should have formed a loop in the thread Stage 2 (within the stimulator) Holding the needle and thread with pre-formed loop in the right needle holder enter the simulator Insert the needle into the right side of the incision and push through at a perpendicular angle Using the left grasper pull the needle through Place the head in the right needle holder Grab and loop with the left needle holder Feed the needle over and through the pre-formed loop Pull the head tight, bringing the knot down onto the skin patch Holding the head in the right needle holder and tail in the left pull the knot tight Stage 3 Hold the head with the left needle holder Perform one throw over the right needle holder Grab the tail and pull through Stage 4 Repeat stage 3 Stage 5 Repeat stage 3 Hold both sides of the thread in one needle holder and cut with laparoscopic scissors This article was published on 2024-02-06
