Advance Nurse Practitioners offer vital support in medical care of inpatients Colorectal unit currently has 2 fully qualified ANP and another who is half way through her training. The ANPs work closely with junior medical staff in the wards. They provide medical care by assessing patient, prescribing fluids and medications, and offer continuity to the care of patients particularly in emergency team. They also spend time in Surgical Assessment Unit to assess and clerk in patients. To become an ANP, the nurse has to achieve a Post Grad Diploma in Advanced Nurse Practice. They have completed modules in advanced patient history taking and clinical examination, work based learning and non medical prescribing. They have all worked in colorectal unit for many years so are a good source of advice for junior doctors. This article was published on 2024-02-06
