Appointments and Activities

He was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in 2002. He qualified from St Thomas' Hospital in London and trained in General Surgery and Coloproctology in London and the South East. He undertook a 15 month fellowship in Advanced Colorectal Surgery and Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery in Sydney and Brisbane prior to coming to Edinburgh.

He was a SCAN (SE Scotland Managed Clinical Network for Cancer) Colorectal  Clinical Lead between 2008 and 2014 and is the Clinical Lead since 2016 to date.  He is currently the Training Programme Director for General Surgery in South East Scotland since 2013. He was the Lead Clinician of Colorectal Unit between 2005-2010.

Clinical Interests

Mr Mander’s clinical interests include colonoscopy, day case and minimal access surgery, colorectal cancer screening and treatment as well as the treatment of functional and inflammatory bowel disease.

Mr Mander’s educational qualifications are:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BCh Hons), St Thomas's Hospital, London
  • Fellow Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Colorectal Fellowship - Prof. Bokey, Sydney
