Ms Collie is a recipient of OBE at this year's Queens Birthday Honours

Our consultant colleague Ms Mhairi Collie is one of the 33 Scots recognised in this year's Queen’s Birthday Honours List

Ms Mhairi Collie, our colorectal consultant surgeon, was awarded Officer of of the Order of the British Empire in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours.

This is a recognition of her extraordinary work to offer treatment for socially stigmatising fistula in Uganda. Many women suffer from fistula after traumatic child birth in sub-Saharan Africa which often leads to them been ostracised. She has dedicated her time over many years to treat these women and train local doctors, nurses and midwives to care for them with her unique set of surgical skills and running a charity organisation to support the activities.

We are extremely fortunate to have her in our unit where she offers the same dedication and hard work for our patients.
