We Coordinate the Colorectal Cancer Pathway from Diagnosis to treatment Lothian wide and outwith. 

  • From Diagnosis, ensuring appropriate investigations to stage are arranged, allocating an appropriate surgeon to match treatment needs.
  • Following up investigations and acting upon results, referral to CNS team, referrals to the wider MDT. Booking surgery and ensuring the pathway to surgery is as timely as possible.
  • Arranging admissions when necessary, providing ongoing communication within the wider NHS departments.
  • Communicating with the individual surgeons and collating information regarding patient care.
  • Presenting patients at MDM in the absence of Consultants.

  • CT/CT Colon (chest) and MRI (pelvis/rectum)
  • Flexble sigmoidoscopy or Colononoscopy
  • Outpatient appointments
  • Discussion at multiple disciplinary meeting (MDM)

  • CT abdomen and pelvis
  • CT Colonography and supplement CT chest

TEMs (transanal endoscopic minimally invasive surgery)

Diagnosis

  • Referral from Endosocopy or MDM (other Cons)
  • ERUS (endoscopic rectal ultrasound)/Rigidsigmoidoscopy +/- MRI (usually already staged with CT)
  • Outpatient appointments

Treatment

  • TEMS surgery
