We offer a full range of abdominal wall reconstruction and abdominal wall pathologies management.

Location

We are based in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Beds are located in Wards 106 and 107.

There are now a total of 77 beds, shared by all general surgeons.

Services

Expertise in several areas including: 

  • Advanced minimally invasive hernia surgery (ETEP, TAPP, TEP, LIRA, MILA, SCOULA, IPOM)
  • Complex hernia surgery
  • Chronic pain related to hernia and abdominal wall (ACNES, Tietze) including nerve block and neurectomy
  • Parastomal hernias management
  • Abdominal wall tumours reconstruction
  • Transplant hernia management
  • Post Partum abdominal wall deformities
  • Burst abdomen and Peritoniostomy management
  • Management of loss of domain (Botox)

Team Members

Our team consists of consultant surgeons with a specific expertise in this field of the general surgery, surgical trainees, and clinical nurse specialists:

Artur Zanellato

Mr Zanellato is currently a Consultant General Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and is also an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.

Ben Stutchfield

His research interests include understanding human and algorithmic bias in selection of patients for transplantation, methods to assess outcomes in liver transplantation and abdominal wall reconstruction techniques.

Dimitrios Damaskos

My interests lie in Emergency Surgery, Abdominal Wall Reconstruction, Perioperative Care and Surgical Training.
