Ms Howie is a General Surgical Resident and a Clinical Research Fellow within the Surgical Sabermetrics Group within the Usher Institute, working towards a PhD. She additionally contributes to the MSc in Patient Safety and Human Clinical Factors.

Appointments and Activities

Ms Howie’s research interests stem from a motivation to improve patient safety and surgical training through a background in human factors. Her main focus of research is the objective measurement of cognitive load of the surgical team, whilst also investigating mechanisms to reduce load and optimise performance. This has been inspired through observing sports psychology techniques, and led to collaborations within the sporting world.
