ENT and Head and Neck consultant with experience in Benign and Malignant head and neck and thyroid surgery. Research experience in clinical, oncological and functional outcomes and the application of statistical modelling for prediction and clinical management.

Experience with transoral approaches for treatment of the larynx and oropharynx including robotic (TORS) and laser techniques.

Appointments and Activities 

Mr Hay is an ENT surgeon with an interest in Head and Neck and Thyroid cancer.  His undergraduate training was at the University of Manchester Medical School. He continued his training within the London deanery before starting higher surgical training in ENT and Head and Neck surgery in the South Thames rotation. He worked in numerous prestigious institutions including Guy’s and St Thomas’, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, St Georges Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital.

During his training Mr Hay gained a Master’s degree from University College London in Evidence Based Healthcare and completed a research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York.

His postgraduate training was completed with graduation from the national Training Interface Groups fellowship at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, London in Head and Neck Surgery and a post CCT clinical fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York.

Mr Hay joined the faculty in Edinburgh in 2018 providing ENT and cancer services to NHS Lothian, building on his experience in Head and Neck, Skull base and Thyroid conditions.  He became an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecture and has responsibility for teaching and mentoring trainees and medical students.

He has published widely, delivered international lectures and has authored a number of book chapters. He has also taught on a number of surgical and research courses.
