This standard knot can be used for most situations during laparoscopic surgery. Stage 1 Needle and suture in the right needle holder Insert the needle to the right of the incision on the stimulated skin patch Feed the needle through to emerge on the other side of the incision Aim for an angle perpendicular to the insertion Pull the thread through allowing enough thread to remain on the right side to then be used later for a pull through approximately one inch. Stage 2 Hold the head in the right needle holder Perform two throw overs around the left needle holder Push the left needle holder through the loops to grab hold of the tail Now holding the tail with the left needle holder and the head with the right pull the tail through the loops Pull the knot so it lies snug to the incision Stage 3 With the head in the left needle holder perform one throw over around the right needle holder Push the right needle holder through, whilst holding the head with the left, to grab the tail Keeping hold with both sides pull the tail through the loops Pull the knot so it is snuggly tied Stage 4 Holding the head in the right needle holder perform one throw over on the left needle holder Push the left needle holder through to grab the tail Holding both sides pull through Pull the knot so it pulls tight Finish the knot by placing both ends in one needle holder and cut with laparoscopic scissors This article was published on 2024-02-06
