He completed his foundation doctor training in NHS Lothian and NHS Borders in 2017.Cameron undertook a PhD with the Surgical Informatics Group under the supervision of Professor Ewen Harrison examining the association between gallstone disease and cardiometabolic disease.Cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease remains the most common cause of death worldwide and many of these deaths are preventable. Gallstone disease represents one of the most common presentations to surgical units worldwide and is associated with risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Cameron’s research focussed on investigating the relationship between gallstones and cardiometabolic disease to identify whether gallstone disease can be used as a predictor of future cardiovascular events, development of diabetes and fatty liver disease.PublicationsFairfield, C.J., et al., 2022.
