Mr Ahmed Sherif MBChB, MSc, MD, FRCSEd (Gen Surg) is a Consultant Transplant Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. His primary focus is liver transplantation and deceased donor multi-organ retrieval with novel machine perfusion technologies. Mr Sherif was appointed in Sep 2023 as the Clinical Lead for Utilisation (Liver Transplant) in Edinburgh, a role funded by NHSBT to promote increasing utilisation and minimise discards in organs offered to transplant centres across the UK. During his training, he obtained an MSc and MD degrees, and his research focused on the surgical challenges in adults and paediatric living donor liver transplants. Mr Sherif moved to Edinburgh in 2015 for a fellowship in HPB and deceased donor transplantation. He achieved FRCS in General Surgery (Transplant Subspeciality) in 2022. Mr Sherif was appointed as a substantive Consultant Transplant Surgeon in 2024. Mr Sherif’s research focuses on clinical studies and trials in liver transplant surgery and novel machine perfusion technologies. Mr Sherif has a broad interest in medical education and teaching, and he is a tutor for the transplant module for undergraduate BMedSci Surgical Sciences and the postgraduate ChM degree by Edinburgh Surgery Online.
