His clinical interests include head and neck and thyroid surgery with a focus on research in to oncological and functional outcomes for this patient group. As an Honorary Clinical Reader and NRS Fellow, he is an active principle investigator on both multi centre clinical trials and translational trials in the field. Iain Nixon Consultant ENT Surgeon, Honorary Clinical Reader Contact details Work: 0131 536 3745 Appointments and Activities Mr Nixon is a clinical and academic ENT surgeon with an interest in head and neck and thyroid cancer. Following undergraduate and higher surgical training in Glasgow, he completed fellowship training in both Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, London and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York. In addition to clinical training, Mr Nixon completed a PhD in thyroid cancer clinical outcomes in 2013 in Amsterdam University. Since joining the faculty in Edinburgh in 2015 Mr Nixon has developed skull base and thyroid services in NHS Lothian. From an academic perspective he was awarded the NHS Research Scotland fellowship in 2018 and became an Honorary Clinical Reader for Edinburgh University in 2019. Mr Nixon has represented NHS Lothian and the University of Edinburgh at with invited lectures across the UK, Europe and North America.
