Project Title

Modifiable factors predicting outcome in solid organ transplantation

Qualification

MBChB 2009 University of Glasgow

Project Summary

Organ transplantation provides patients with a surgical option to manage end-stage organ dysfunction. As with any surgical procedure, there are significant risks associated with organ transplantation. The risks may be applicable to any type of organ transplant, or more specific depending on the specific organ transplanted. In the interest of ever evolving technique and patient and graft survival, it is important that we identify these risk factors and strive to improve outcomes.

I will aim to identify modifiable risk factors with regard to liver transplantation and pancreas transplantation. In particular I will focus on factors which have as yet been poorly studied, or with limited evidence base in the literature. More specifically I will look at risk factors predicting biliary complications in donation after cardiac death (DCD) liver transplantation and cardio-pulmonary exercise testing as a predictor of outcome after pancreas transplantation.
