Mr Zanellato has been able to focus on his interest in complex minimally invasive procedures, as well as the reconstruction of the abdominal wall and hernia surgery. Furthermore, he is fascinated by human factors and education.
Mr Zanellato is currently a Consultant General Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and is also an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.

Mr Zanellato has been able to focus on his interest in complex minimally invasive procedures, as well as the reconstruction of the abdominal wall and hernia surgery. Furthermore, he is fascinated by human factors and education.
In 2018, Mr Zanellato was appointed as a General Surgeon Consultant at the Royal Infirmary of Scotland and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.
Abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia surgery are his primary areas of expertise.
Mr Zanellato takes part in undergraduate teaching at the University of Edinburgh - Medical School. He is a regular clinical and educational supervisor for Foundation Year physicians, Surgical Fellows, and Specialist Trainees at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
He also maintains a strong research interest, primarily in the incisional hernias associated with C-sections, for which he has developed a classification that is being used worldwide.

Mr Zanellato, who was born in Curitiba, Brazil, obtained his medical degree from the Evangelica School of Medicine, which is now known as MacKenzie University. Immediately thereafter, he began his surgical training at the Evangelico University Hospital. During his compulsory military service in 1997, he served as a Lieu Tenant Surgeon at the Brazilian Army Hospital. During this time, he conducted research on the impact of external temperature in haemorrhagic shock in rats. Subsequently, he was awarded an MD thesis from the Federal University of Parana.
His initial appointment was as a Consultant Trauma Surgeon with a Focus in Tertiary Trauma Care, where he performed highly complex trauma operations. Simultaneously, he served as a general surgeon in the private sector and established his own practice, which focused on gastrointestinal and obesity surgery. He considered a career break in 2011 to develop the medical Emergency and Trauma Response Team and to rebuild and develop the Community Hospital in Soyo, Angola.
He switched to the United Kingdom in 2014 to embark on a Post CCT Clinical Fellowship in HPB Surgery at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College, London.
