Project Summary

The IMOFAP study aims to define the precise temporal and quantitative relationship between the tryptophan pathway metabolism and the onset and severity of acute pancreatitis-associated organ dysfunction (AP-MODS). Ultimately, this will inform the design of future studies which will address efficacy of pathway inhibition in AP-MODS. In addition, this study will establish the value of peripheral tryptophan metabolism as a prognostic marker of AP-MODS.

It has the potential to improve our understanding of the potential role of tryptophan metabolism in acute pancreatitis, and may indirectly improve the care of patients with acute pancreatitis by:

  • Providing an improved understanding of acute pancreatitis and its sequelae.
  • Facilitating the potential development of medicines to treat acute pancreatitis.
  • Exploring potential avenues through which prevention of AP-MODS might be possible.
