The IMOFAP study is co-funded by The University of Edinburgh and an industrial collaborator (GlaxoSmithKline plc), as part of the Discovery Partnerships in Academia (DPAc) initiative. Supervisors Mr Damian Mole Professor Rowan Parks Project Summary The IMOFAP study aims to define the precise temporal and quantitative relationship between the tryptophan pathway metabolism and the onset and severity of acute pancreatitis-associated organ dysfunction (AP-MODS). Ultimately, this will inform the design of future studies which will address efficacy of pathway inhibition in AP-MODS. In addition, this study will establish the value of peripheral tryptophan metabolism as a prognostic marker of AP-MODS. It has the potential to improve our understanding of the potential role of tryptophan metabolism in acute pancreatitis, and may indirectly improve the care of patients with acute pancreatitis by: Providing an improved understanding of acute pancreatitis and its sequelae. Facilitating the potential development of medicines to treat acute pancreatitis. Exploring potential avenues through which prevention of AP-MODS might be possible.
