Activities and Appointments
Dr Smith is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, and has been in continuous academic employment since completing her PhD in 1995. She conducted seven years of postdoctoral research in biomedical science in the UK and overseas, including a Wellcome Trust Prize Fellowship at Toronto University, Canada. She then held lectureships in Neuropharmacology and Biomedical Science &Toxicology for seven years before taking up her current post of eFacilitator in 2010. As well as delivering science degree programmes on-campus and online, at both Russell Group and Post-92 institutions, she has taught in industry (Aptuit) and overseas (Université Paul Verlaine-Metz, France; Hong Kong HKU Space). She has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2004, and completed the Edinburgh Teaching Award towards Senior Fellow in 2017. She is currently Course Leader for Y2 Academic Surgery, MSc in Surgical Sciences, and Y2 Pharmacovigilance, MSc in Clinical Trials.
